        David Guerva Armijos

We are loving the coffee coming out of Peru this year.  This Caturra from David Armijos is an incredibly clean and expressive coffee that feels as lively as it tastes.  In the cup, it’s bright and juicy with a smooth, rounded vanilla sweetness that gives the whole profile a soft, almost effortless balance.  The clarity from the washed process allows everything to show up distinctly—nothing muddy, nothing competing, just a vibrant, easy-drinking cup that feels light, refreshing, and genuinely fun to come back to sip after sip.

There’s an uplifting quality here that makes it just as suited for a slow morning as it is for an afternoon reset.

David Guevara Armijos is part of a generation of producers quietly shaping the future of Peruvian coffee from the ground up. A second-generation farmer, David works side-by-side with his daughter, Anai Dalila, tending to the five hectares of land their family calls home in La Libertad, La Coipa. This isn’t large-scale agriculture—it’s daily, hands-on stewardship of every tree they grow. Their farm is planted with Caturra, Castillo, and Catuai, each variety carefully managed across terrain defined by steady mountain humidity, high elevation, and deeply fertile soils that have supported coffee cultivation here for decades. While seasonal workers assist during harvest, much of the cultivation, picking, and sorting is still done by David and his family themselves, reinforcing a direct connection between the work they put into the land and the quality found in the cup.

Across Peru, nearly a quarter of the country’s coffee is grown between 1,200 and 2,000 meters above sea level, spread across twenty-eight distinct microclimates. Within this landscape lies enormous potential—not just for regional identity, but for small, family-run farms like David’s to define what Peruvian coffee can be through long-term investment in sustainability, land management, and quality-driven farming practices.
